Since October 2007 a group of Learning Centre students have been taking weekly horse riding lessons. Before we go we study horse care theory at the Centre.

When we arrive at Ranchhouse Stables in Osmington we sometimes catch our own horses if they’re not in already, then we groom and clean out their hooves. We do this so we can get used to the horses and they can get used to us. Then we tack up and get on the horses. We sometimes mount up in the yard and sometimes mount up in the school. After that we either ride in the school or go out on a walk down the road.

We all have our favourite horses. But the riding school makes us ride different horses because it is good for our riding. When this year’s Year 11s left we celebrated all we had learnt together by having a gymkhana with races and rosettes.
