The 10 event DLC Olympic Challenge was

undertaken by Dez, Aaron and Jamie

at The Osprey Centre as part of DLC's Olympic Celebrations.  With 5 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd and 1

point for 3rd being awarded in all events, our three worthy competitors gave no quarter and produced an

outstanding contest which went down to the wire.

Jamie leaped into an early lead winning the first two

events.  But with Aaron winning two of the next

three events and consistent performances from Dez,

including a win in the indoor Javelin by a margin of

2.30 metres, there were only three points separating

the field at the half way stage.

The next three events: 1500m Treadmill Run, 500m

Row and 1km Cycle saw each winning one event by the

smallest of margins; the 1km Cycle proved to be

the tightest with only 4 seconds separating 1st from 3rd.

With two events left Aaron led the field by one

point and all was to play for.  By the last Challenge,

the Penalty Shootout, Aaron was still one point in

front.  With the score, Jamie 3 goals to Aaron’s 2

goals, Aaron needed to score with his last shot; an

outstanding save by Grant (The Cat) Neven called

a halt to the sudden death shootout and Jamie

had won the Challenge by the narrowest of

margins - one point.

DLC would like to thank The Osprey Centre for all

their help in organising and setting up the

Challenge, in particular staff member Aaron.

Grant added, “Although the Challenge was only

competed for by a small field, all three were

outstanding both in their supreme effort and

sportsmanship, an absolute credit to

themselves and the school - WELL DONE ALL.”
