I am delighted to report this year's excellent exam results.
This year DLZ had nearly double the number of candidates, with many late entries, which accounted for some difficulties with teacher assessment, and have skewed the statistics slightly. However, that said, nearly all students left with accredited qualifications and as the data shows this was at GCSE level.
Nationally DLZ is well above the average for PRU/short stay schools. Look beyond the hard statistics and you will notice that this year DLZ helped '22' of our year 11 students achieve 5 or more A* - G grade against '11' last year and '19' achieve 1 or more A* - C grades against 15 last year.
I would like to congratulate all students especially those students who were not high flyers, those with very special needs, or simply find learning so much harder than others.
Our zone is not just judged solely by our ability to teach the brightest of children, but by how we can meet the needs of all of our students. We are fortunate indeed that all of our staff work so hard to ensure that all in their charge are stretched and encouraged to reach their potential.
To enable contrast, I’ve shown 2009 GCSE or equivalent results against 2008 and 2007’s results:
