DLC and the Compass sports staff came together to run the first ever inter-learning centres' table tennis tournament, held at the Osprey Leisure Centre on Portland.

Three of the five Dorset centres were able to enter players in this event (4 came down from the Forum Centre, Blandford) and a healthy 11 players took to the five tables for a round-robin competition.

DLC were well represented with three players in attendance - Corban Brooks, James Dobson and Jake Brown - although the latter could not play because of a recent football injury. However, Jake proved invaluable to the smooth running of the morning's play as he officiated all of the matches on table 1 - 10 back-to-back games!

A round-robin offers the chance for everybody to play everybody else so each player enjoyed 10 matches - just a single game each time, first to 15. This format worked extremely well and all matches were highly competitive so that even the eventual winner - Rio from the Compass - lost two of his 10 encounters.

As for James and Corban - well they enjoyed a fantastic tournament - finishing 2nd and 3rd overall respectively and both gaining much solace from the fact they had both beaten the eventual winner Rio. Yes, it was that close!

After such a successful, if somewhat tiring, morning of competitive table tennis, the Compass and DLC will ensure this event returns in 2019.
